4 Wicked Strategies To Get Your Retail Store Ready For Halloween

Halloween is just around the corner, which means it’s time for you to ramp up your spooky season marketing. So take the plastic skeletons out of the closet, dust off the fake cobwebs, and ready your pumpkins.

From spooking up your online presence to offering deals, discounts, and gift cards, there are plenty of things you can do to get ready for Halloween. This is also a chance for you to boost visibility for your brand and get some new customers into your store. And because Halloween is one of the most popular holidays in the US, the likelihood of that happening is very high.

In this blogpost, we’ve compiled a number online and offline strategies that you should use to get your store ready in time for Halloween. Let’s take a look!

1. Create A Halloween-Themed Window Display

If your window display is spooky enough, we can guarantee that you’ll see a greater influx of customers in your store. Create a small space at the front of your store, and place all your Halloween items in it. If you’re running a bookstore, stack your horror novels here. If you’re a clothing store, display your Halloween-themed shirts.

Next, get a life-sized plastic skeleton and settle it down in one corner, facing your Halloween items. The idea is to make it look like the skeleton is guarding your products. You can even accessorize the guy with a witch’s hat or a spider on the shoulder.

Finally, decorate the window itself with some fa-boo-lous Halloween-themed posters. Not only will these look good, but you can also use them to advertise a Halloween sale. If you’re looking for ideas on how to create the most eye-catching Halloween poster, check out PosterMyWall’s Halloween Calendar for some exciting ideas and inspiration.

Finally, sprinkle some fake cobwebs over your entire display to bring the whole thing together.

2. Sell Special Halloween Gift Cards

Put a stack of special gift cards at your store’s checkout station. People can buy these for their friends and loved ones. This will directly drive more traffic to your store for Halloween, as new customers will come in to redeem their gift cards.

You should also take steps to incentivize people to buy your gift cards. For instance, let them know that if they use the gift card online, they’ll be eligible for free shipping and special discounts.

3. Run A Bone-Chilling Social Media Campaign

When it comes to running a seasonal promotional campaign, social media is your best friend. It’s the perfect tool for creating hype around your store and for getting people talking.

So this Halloween, prepare a well-planned Halloween campaign for your social media. Below are some strategies you should try out:

Introduce A Halloween Bingo

Give people something to do each day for the 30 days leading up to Halloween e.g. a horror movie to watch, a costume to create etc. Dedicate one day to shopping at your store and introduce a special promo code. As people share the bingo on their pages, your promo code will gain more and more traction.

Run A Costume Contest

User-generated content (UGC) is 42% more effective than branded content. So ask people to share pictures of themselves in Halloween costumes, using a special hashtag. Incentivise people to share by offering freebies and special discounts to everyone participating.

Share Your Own Halloween Content

Keep engagement high so that people can see all your Halloween promotions. Accompany your posts about sales and discounts with other interesting Halloween-related content, for instance, a post about a must-watch scary movie or a recipe for a Halloween treat.

4. Display Your Halloween Products Strategically

So you’ve managed to bring people to your store for Halloween because of your social media marketing and your window display. Now what? You need to show your customers that your space is Halloween central by placing your Halloween products at the most visible spots in your store.

Here are a few places to consider for your Halloween merchandise:

  • Right near the entrance – so that they’re the first things people see when they walk in
  • Next to best-selling items – the traffic that those items will drive will help make your Halloween items more visible
  • In the center of the store – this lets customers who are exploring your store find the Halloween items they need
  • At the checkout station – small items such as skeleton keychains or tiny, rubber spiders should be placed at the counter so that people are inclined to pick something up when they’re paying their bill

Final Thoughts

Customers love stores that don’t take themselves too seriously and can get into the Halloween spirit. The more effort you put into your online and in-store strategies, the more foot traffic you’ll drive into your store for Halloween. So don’t be afraid to get as creative with your promotions and decor as possible. Happy Halloween!

Happiness Is Homemade Link Party #398

I am so glad you’re here to join us for the 398th Happiness is Homemade link party! Before we get to the party, let’s take a look at this week’s features.

I thought I’d get a few non-Halloween features in this week, and one is this post by Krafty Planner. In it, she gives us 7 tips to practice an attitude of gratitude. With Thanksgiving coming up next month (in the US) and the state of the world, we can forget all of the good that we still have.

Along the same lines of that is these adorable worry jars by Must Have Mom. They are too cute. Little ones are affected by external forces just as much as we are, if not more. With this idea, your child can write down their worries and let them go, as the put the paper in the jar. I like her idea of making this a cares jar and giving them all to God.

Ok, now back to Halloween! These felt flags by She’s Crafty Crafty are so cute. I have a ton of felt with nothing to do with it. Much of the sheets are fall colors, so this is the perfect project to use them up. She mentioned how cute these would be in the hands of a toddler in a wagon going trick or treating. I agree!

Lisa over at Fresh Vintage by Lisa S created these adorable printables to add to a bottle for a quick and easy Halloween decor piece. It looks perfect on her brown bottle. Who doesn’t want to upcycle something you’d throw in the trash into beautiful decor?!

Y’all this next post is unbelievable. I found it and asked her to submit it to Happiness is Homemade. Linda from Life and Linda created this Hallow-queens tablescape, and it’s gorgeous! Who wouldn’t die to be at this Halloween party?! Get it?

DIY Pumpkin Planter

Fall decor without a pumpkin doesn’t look like fall; Halloween without a pumpkin doesn’t felt like Halloween either, especially a carved pumpkin! No matter how small your home is, you still can squish in a pumpkin. It doesn’t have to be a huge pumpkin, but it can be a small pumpkin decoration that stands out. Like my DIY pumpkin planter I’ve made from an old mug. It’s a cute happy pumpkin for Halloween and fall decor in a form of a succulent planter.

My pumpkin is not spooky but enough to bring in the Halloween vibes. So, if you can bring some joy to your home through that cute smiling pumpkin, why not? Anyway, it’s a frugal upcycling project that is super easy to make. If you have lot of mugs with that shape, then you can do more of my pumpkin planter with different pumpkin expression, that would be super cute! But, before going further, you may want to peek at my steps on making my cute pumpkin planter for succulent.

Things To Prepare

It is quick and easy to make and of course takes only a few simple materials to make this pumpkin planter for the Halloween. I use a vibrant cadmium red to get a very stand out pumpkin So, even though it’s just a small succulent planter, but the pumpkin looks bold and eye catching. Anyway, let’s find out my short list of supplies to make this DIY Pumpkin Planter :

  • An old mug with a pumpkin looking shape.
  • Dark orange acrylic paint or spray paint ( I use cadmium red acrylic paint)
  • White paint
  • Black Marker

How To Make

I love to make a functional decoration, so this cute pumpkin mug, would not just serve as a Halloween decoration, but a planter for my succulent as well. Super easy and quick to make, so you can make many of it. Just make sure your old mugs have a round shape that would look a bit like a pumpkin. I happened to have only one old mug that looks like a pumpkin, so I can only make one. Well, let’s just find out my steps on how to make DIY Pumpkin Planter:

1 . Drill a hole or two on the bottom part of the mug.

2 .Make sure your mug is clean, because the paint would not cover the surface properly on a dirty or grease mug. I painted my mug with white paint first for base and to cover some dark colors on my mug. Let it dry.

3. Paint the mug with dark orange color and wait until it’s dry to proceed with next step.

4. Draw eyes, nose and mouth of a smiling pumpkin on the painted mug planter. You can have any other expression you like for your pumpkin planter, but I like the happy pumpkin.

5. Get a stick shape succulent that would look like a stem and plant it on your pumpkin planter. Don’t forget to add some white little pebbles on top for a better clean look. And your pumpkin planter is done!

Isn’t it cute? Isn’t it frugal? You get a cute pumpkin for Halloween decor, you get a new home for your succulent to grow and you get to upcycling your old mug into something new, pretty and useful. So, what are you waiting for? Try look for your old mugs and find those that you can turn into a pumpkin planter for Halloween. Anyway, check also my Halloween project this year, start with my gothic but sweet DIY Halloween Lacey Pumpkin, edgy but fancy DIY Witch Lacey Hat to an intense but stylish DIY Halloween Mummy With Lace.

Happiness Is Homemade Link Party #397

I am so glad you’re here to join us for the 397th Happiness is Homemade link party! Before we get to the link party, let’s take a look at this week’s fantastic features.

This Week’s Features

This mason jar lid pumpkin sign, made by A Life of Balance, is so cute. In this post, Janet gives you a step by step tutorial so you can make your own adorable fall sign. I love that it is 3-D. It would add great depth to a fall gallery wall or a vignette.

Niky from The House on Silverado made this beautiful barn quilt by herself! It definitely doesn’t look homemade. She gives you the tutorial for making your own, and I wish I had the tools to build one myself! By the way, she has a great name right?

Next up we have this super cute witch’s broom doorhanger made by Denise at My Home of All Seasons. She has made available yet another adorable free printable to go on the broom if you’d like to make one for yourself. It’s perfect to hang on your door for all the trick-or-treaters who come to your home on Halloween to see.

This Halloween burlap pumpkin wreath made by Cheryl at Sew Can Do is adorable! It’s very farmhouse chic, and I love it! The bow is gorgeous, and I will definitely be attempting it on a project or two!

Our final feature is this embroidery hoop turned Halloween hoop wreath. I love upcycling items into something new and beautiful, and this wreath does just that. Ann from The Apple Street Cottage did a great job of making it look like an upscale spider web. I love the addition of the little spider climbing her silk back up to the web!

DIY Pumpkin Gothic Halloween

Bored with cute pumpkins, sweet looking pumpkins or scary pumpkin for this year Halloween? You may want to try this pretty yet gothic style pumpkin. It’s not made from a regular pumpkin, but made from a plank. It’s a square black lacey pumpkin with orange ribbon. Black lace together with orange ribbon are really stressed out the gothic look for a Halloween pumpkin. My gothic lacey pumpkin is perfect for an adult Halloween decoration; moreover, it is easy to make and quick too.

A mature pumpkin decoration would add more sophistication to your Halloween decor. And a gothic style is a perfect way to celebrate Halloween without looking over spooky or childish. Take a look at on how I made this DIY Pumpkin Gothic Halloween and you will know how simple it is to have a gothic Halloween decor by using only black lace and orange ribbon to decorate a white plank pumpkin.

Things To Prepare

Different lace pattern would give a different look to the gothic pumpkin. So, don’t be afraid of using other pattern than my lace pattern. And like I have told you on my Halloween Black and White Sign, that if you don’t have a black lace and you have a white lace instead; then you can color it black with black marker before you spend more money to buy some black lace. Anyway, let’s find out my short list of supplies to make my DIY Pumpkin Gothic Halloween:

  • A white plank ( wooden or other material would fine as long as it is white)
  • Black lace
  • Orange ribbon
  • UHU clear glue

How To Make

I promise you, that the process of making this gothic lacey pumpkin is easy and quick. You can make it big, regular or in small size. Put them together in different sizes and have them as a focal point to your Halloween decor. Without any further, let’s just find out my steps on how to make DIY Pumpkin Gothic Halloween:

1 .Have a white plank cut into a square pumpkin.

2. Cut a black lace into 3 parts with the same length.

3. Glue the black laces one by one and wait until it’s dry before you proceed to the next step.

4. Take the orange ribbon and tie a bow and then secure it to the lacey pumpkin by applying glue to it. Let it dry. And you are done! As simple as that!

My DIY Gothic Pumpkin is not just great for Halloween, but you can also have it as your fall decoration. It’s just great to have a decoration that will match more than one occasion, just like this lacey black and white pumpkin. It would look fantastic both for Gothic Halloween or for black and white fall decor!
