DIY Two Sided Coaster – Dad Is My Anchor

I have mentioned on my earlier post Best Things To Celebrate Father’s Day – With Anchor, that I have an ongoing Father’s Day project which involved an anchor. Well, this is it, I made a DIY Two Sided Coaster – Dad Is My Anchor. This diy would be a great idea for Fathers Day gift; not just because it’s handmade but also the meaning of “Dad Is My Anchor” that would melt any Dad’s heart.

Anchor (according to dictionary) is “a heavy object attached to a rope or chain and used to moor a vessel to the sea bottom, typically one having a metal shank with a ring at one end for the rope and a pair of curved and/or barbed flukes at the other.” Therefor, an Anchor is a symbol of safety and stability. In relation to that, “Dad Is Your Anchor” have a meaning of your Dad as your safety, someone you would hold on to. I think is a very strong statement, yet sweet and honoring for any Dads out there. And wouldn’t it be great to be used in a coaster as a gift on Father’s Day.

Now, let’s get our hands a bit dirty! Prepare first all the things you need to have for making this DIY Two Sided Coaster – Dad Is My Anchor:

  • Cork Mat
  • Burlap (Stiff type)
  • Glue for wood
  • White acrylic paint
  • Drawing Pen
  • Black brush pen

Not many things to prepared to make this easy handmade coaster. Let’s go through the simple steps to do DIY Two Sided Coaster – Dad Is My Anchor:

  1. Cut the cork mat 4 x 4 inches (10 x 10 cm) dimension in square.
  2. Cut the stiff burlap with same dimension as the cork mat.
  3. Glue together the square cork mat and the stiff burlap. Let it dry.
  4. Cut the 4 corners in bevel to give a better look to the coaster.
  5. Draw an anchor with drawing pen on the burlap side and write the words “Dad Is My” on the cork side of the coaster.

  1. Altered Eclectics – AG

When you got yourself a plain black or white or other plain color gift box, you may need more ornaments to make it more personal. Or, when you wanted to make some diy gift box to someone special, you don’t need to make it from scratch. Just have yourself a plain gift box and then decorated yourself. It would be appeared as a handmade gift box that is personalised, surely would bring more meaning to it.

I gave you these 2 gift boxes I made from plain black box that I bought on sale. I wanted an elegant look, so i choose laces and ribbon roses (that i made myself) as a main ornaments. And for additional ornaments, I used some small buttons, organza ribbon, satin ribbon, gift wrap paper and some artificial leaves. To get more elegant look, I used pastel color scheme and ivory as the dominant color. So, it is not that difficult to make DIY elegant gift box with flower ornaments.

Make your own arrangement as you like and choose the color scheme you desired. Don’t forget to equipped yourself with some adhesive, scissors and glue gun. I hope my DIY elegant gift box with flower ornaments would inspire you to come out with more beautiful gift box decorations.

Have a creative diy!
