DIY Beach Theme Key Holders

Another coastal project? Yes, my theme for this coming summer is Nautical or Coastal theme. In that case, most of my summer projects would be things with beachy feeling, marine colors and seaside ornaments. I find it fun to make coastal decoration for home, it has fresh, breezy and relax feelings. This DIY Beach Theme Key Holders is a fun functional home decoration you may use it on your cottage by the sea! 😉

These are the things the I prepared to do the Key Holders with beachy theme:

  • cotton rope
  • Cardboard roll (thick) or you can exchange it with wooden log
  • Three hooks
  • Glue
  • Drawing pen

How to make DIY Beach Theme Key Holders? Check ot these steps:

  1. Cut balsa wood into a shape of a bottle and a mini fish.
  2. Paint the bottle shape with white acrylic paint and the fish with blue paint. Let it dry.
  3. While you wait for it to dry, install 3 hooks on the bottom side of the cardboard roll as the key holders.
  4. Write the word “Keys” on the painted bottle shape.
  5. Glue the fish on the bottle shape plank.
  6. Tilt organic rope around the bottle’s neck and tie it on the back to secure it. The “keys” sign is ready.

DIY Rustic Nautical Sign With Love Life Buoy

Summer is on the way, some of you may have already planned a summer vacation with your loved ones. Or some are excited to welcome their loved ones on their home or their summer home for gathering. If you’re the guests expected one, and they’re going to spent holiday at your home or summer home, you might want to prepare for a fabulous new summer look in your home. To be thrifty and not spent too much on summer decorations, you could try this diy, a rustic nautical sign with love life buoy. Not just scream for summer, this summer decoration is fantastic for nautical style as well. tThe rustic nautical sign would look fresh in your home or your beach home.

Picture71

What do you need to have to make this rustic nautical sign with adorable love life buoy?

  • Balsa wood or some wooden plank
  • Kraft cardboard
  • Thick cotton rope
  • Red cotton rope
  • Black and white acrylic paint
  • White and blue spray paint
  • Glue

Picture68

DIY steps to make cotton rope love life buoy into a rustic nautical sign are:

  1. Cut the wooden plank into 3 same length to form a square shape board.
  2. Cut the kraft cardboard into a smaller square.
  3. Glue the 3 planks together with the kraft cardboard as the back structure to the wooden plank board. Let it settle.
  4. To get the rustic look, attention is needed on the painting job. Spray paint the sign board with light blue paint in slightly spots.
  5. Spray the board more with white paint with zig zag move to get an event tone. Then you will see the blue spots would appear in slightly bluish spots. Let it dry.
  6. Now, mix white and black acrylic paint to get a light grey. Don’t go too even with the mixing, we need to get uneven light grey tone. So, just paint it with horizontal moves and add a little water in phases along the way. If you do it right and know when to stop with grey tone, you will see for instance, the rustic look on the sign board. Let it dry.
  7. Draw a proportional love shape on the sign board and leave a space for the wording below the love life buoy you’re going to make.
  8. Poor some glue on the love shape and arrange the thick cotton rope into the love shape by layering it. I did in 5 layers, always in odd number. And try to start and finish the rope on the spot that you’re going to add the red rope, so you can seal it under the red rope. Don’t forget to leave some glue-free space on 4 sides underneath the love shape cotton rope; that’s the room for the red rope to go in.
  9. Wrapped the cotton rope with red rope on the spot you have marked. Again, use odd number for the winding. Your love shape is now looking like a love life buoy, nautical indeed.
  10. Secure all the winding with glue underneath.
  11. Write the word “Family On Board” with black acrylic paint. Isn’t that more nautical words? 🙂 For easy way, you can always use stickers or stencils for the wording. Let it dry.
  12. If you want to use it as a wall hanging decoration, add hanger on the back of the sign board. But for fast easy decor, you can simply put it rest against the wall on a desk or mantel.

Picture69

This diy rustic nautical sign with love life buoy is a great piece to have your home transferred into a coastal or nautical theme with a touch rustic feeling. I know it’s a bit tricky with the painting job to get the rustic look, but you can re-paint it again and again until you get the perfect tone to the rustic yet nautical look. Hope you dare to try!

French Door on House Exterior

I always love French doors, French windows on house exterior or even interior French door. I love modern French interior too, it’s simple but sophisticated, airy, high ceiling, big openings, has traditional touch, neutral colors.  That’s are all the elements that I like from my point of view on modern French architecture and interior.

Picture61

Now let’s find out a glance about French door history. French door was originated from France and started around 17th century where Renaissance style was dominating architecture on that era. The French door was originally adopted from a large glass opening which was a French window. At that time, the French windows were used for people to able to open and walk through the window to a patio. The glass panel window was favorable at that time as a source of abundant natural light. Afterward, the French windows became known as French door which is a big trend right now for houses in many country, not just France. French door has been used for both interior or exterior door.

This is a sketch I made when I think of French door on a house exterior. Black frame against white wooden wall. This is more to farmhouse style meets French doors. I gave a paving entryway to give more country French style.

Picture59

I used watercolors to paint the French door on house exterior drawing. Here are the colors I used to finished my French door on house exterior drawing:

  • Watercolors in green, yellow, blue, white.
  • Drawing pen
  • Brush pen (especially on the paving entry way)

Picture60

French door is a perfect solution to get more natural lights during the day and more view to enjoy which will bring thin boundary between outdoor and indoor. French door does complimenting regularity of a house exterior with its symmetrical and balanced proportion. That is why French style looks more traditional.

Well, I hope you enjoy my little thought of French door on house exterior that projected in a watercolor drawing.

Home Office Plus Kid’s Room on Garden – Interior

Home Office Plus Kid’s Room on Garden – Interior

Hello again, on my previous post I have designed a place on the back garden, an office, a sanctuary, a place for little gathering with closed friends and family, hobbies room and a little place for my kid to play. Yes, a place of home office plus kid’s room on a garden. I have shown the floor plan on my previous post (Home Office Plus Kid’s Room on Garden – Floor Plan). This tiny little house has a mezzanine for the kid’s room while the office is under the mezzanine.

Picture75

The house is consist of office area, sitting area and on the mezzanine is the kid’s play room. It’s 2.8 m x 2.8 m, with the height of 2.5 m and minus 0.7 m from the ground level, that would make the total height  of 3.2 m. So, I’m sure anyone can build it on their backyard without any permission what so ever. The office area height to the mezzanine is 1.8 m and the mezzanine area is only 2.8 m x 1.4 m. So, the sitting area will be the cleared space with high ceiling.

So, these are the perspectives of the interior from the side-front view and side-rear view.

Picture73

The interior is a white wooden flooring, white wall, white as a based color. Second color is turquoise, third is yellow and grey. A dash of nautical ambience which goes along with summer colors palette to get a holiday feeling of refreshing. Huge french door and windows on the front side of the garden house for maximum light.

The office has a long “L” shape table to do kinds of work which I love, bigger table, more space to do your creativity. Storage under table, squeeze in a mini fridge for myself and entertaining friends; which you can do it in the sitting area. The sitting area has a sofa and a banquette which also serve as storage maybe for some blanket or pillows.

Picture74

The mezzanine has a little sofa, a set of little table and chair, a yellow bean bag, a blackboard and some nautical decorations. And the great part is, a huge storage for toys and crafts; the long shelve which also act as the railing for the mezzanine is perfect for storage.

On my next post, there will be the exterior views to complete the whole design of the home office plus kid’s room on garden.

See you!

Creative all day!
