Easy DIY Coastal Anchor Monogram

I made an easy diy coastal anchor monogram which suitable for beach theme decor. I made the monogram from the back of a broken picture frame and my nautical ornament that I have made earlier; an anchor from popsicle stick and cotton rope.

Let me share with you how I made the coastal anchor monogram, but before that, you need to prepare several things for this easy diy, which are:

  • A plank base for monogram, I used the back of an un-used picture frame. So it’s already have hangers for hanging.
  • Balsa wood for “R” monogram. Or you can buy wooden R shape if you wanted to save time.
  • Light blue acrylic paint.
  • Glue
  • Anchor nautical ornament (see how I made it from only using popsicle sticks and cotton rope)

These are the easy steps to make coastal anchor monogram :

  1. I cut the balsa wood in the shape of letter “R”. I made it from 2 parts since my balsa wood is not wide enough to have a whole R monogram.
  2. Paint the balsa wood in light blue acrylic paint. Leave it to dry.
  3. Glue the R shapes onto the base (the back of un-used picture frame) to form the R initial. Let it dry and firm.
  4. Glue the The anchor nautical ornament on the “R” monogram. Let it dry.
  5. Your diy coastal anchor monongram is ready! Easy right?!

You can hang the monogram or simply put it on your coastal theme mantel. This super easy diy it’s a great upcycling project to make in such a short time.

How To Make Framed Lace Web With Starfishes

A framed lace web with starfishes? you must be wondering what is i? Is it a diy coastal? Is it a coastal decoration? How to make the framed lace web? There is a beauty in a lace web made of yarn. I’ve made a lace web Christmas wreath from yarn. The basic principle is just same as the framed lace web, which is using yarn and glue to make a lace web into shapes or things you want to develop. People use to make it in the shapes of ball and cone. I have made it in donut (torus) shape and now in one dimension, a framed sheet of lace web.

Picture16

Actually there aren’t many things to prepared to make the lace web from yarn, but to upgrade the look into an interesting decorations, we need to be creative and add some other ornaments and material. And to make this Framed Lace Web With Starfishes, you need to have:

  • White yarn
  • Wooden sticks to used a s a frame. ( I used balsa sticks)
  • White glue
  • Starfihes
  • White acrylic paint
  • Hot Glue
  • Lotion

Picture14

The steps are easy, just need a little patience to wind the yarn :

  1. Apply some lotion to a smooth surface (a glass, ceramics, plastic, etc) that will be used as a base for making the lace web
  2. Spread the yarn all evenly to the surface within a square area you desired ( mine was around 1 x 1 foot (30×30 cm).
  3. Apply glue all over the yarn sheet. Let lace web sheet dry.
  4. Cut 2 sets of the wooden sticks into four sticks in desired dimension to form the frame ( mine was 28x 28 cm)
  5. Glue the four sticks onto the white yarn sheet. Let the frame dry and secured.
  6. Cut the excess yarn from the edges of the frame.
  7. Glue the other side of the web sheet with another four wooden sticks to make the frame. So it has frame at the back and front. Let it completely dry and give some weigh on top of the framed lace wed to get it pressed at the same time.
  8. Paint the frame with white paint. Leave it dry.
  9. Finished it with gluing the starfishes by using hot glue.

Picture17

Sounds difficult? No, it doesn’t, making the lace web is very easy and by framing it, you got a steady lace web sheet. It’s like a blank canvas waiting for you to be creative with it. I made it into a coastal diy with starfishes ornament. Interested to make? I hope you do and be more creative!

DIY Coastal Buoy’s Room Sign

I’ve been wanting to make something for my son’s play room until I made this coastal theme “Buoy’s Room” sign. It’s just a simple diy sign for a boy’s room with nautical theme which perfect for boys. I guess the coastal theme is great for boy’s room because of the blue navy color and all nautical elements which picturing most of boy’s toys even for adult man.

Picture126

As usual I will share with you the tutorial on how to make the boy’s room sign. but first let’s go through the things you need to prepare for this DIY Coastal Buoy’s Room Sign:

  • Wooden plank ( I used balsa wood, light and easy to cut)
  • A wooden frame ( I used balsa sticks)
  • White acrylic paint
  • Dark blue acrylic paint
  • Red acrylic paint
  • Cotton rope
  • Lifebuoy ornament (Check out my post on Lifebuoy’s ornament tutorial on how to make nautical ornaments)
  • Glue
  • Tape

Picture125

Follow these easy steps below and you will got yourself a beautiful Coastal Buoy’s Room Sign :

  1. Cut the plank or balsa wood into rectangle in 1:2.5 proportion.
  2. Cut the wooden sticks into four sides as  the frame to the wooden plank.
  3. Paint the plank with dark blue acrylic paint. Leave to dry.
  4. Paint the wooden frame sticks with white acrylic paint. Let it dry.
  5. Sketch the word Buoy’s Room in pencil on the painted plank and then paint it with white acrylic paint by using flat brush. Let it dry
  6. Paint the top comma with red paint to give an accent because mostly the coastal colors are red, white and blue.
  7. Glue the lifebuoy’s ornament next to the wording of “Buoy’s Room.
  8. Install a cotton rope on the back of the sign as a hanger. I just taped the rope to the back of the sign as I used a light balsa wood, so that should be enough to hold the weight. Finished!

Picture127

It’s simple with nautical colors of red, white and blue. The dark blue is a real contrast to the white lifebuoy ornament and the white wording of “buoy’s room”. This is a great way to decorate your kid’s room, especially boy’s room with coastal theme. Coastal theme is a nice choice for summer decor too. Well then, have a wonderful time to try your own touch to the diy coastal sign!

DIY Coastal Ship Wheel Home Sign

I have posted How To Make Nautical Ornaments a couple of days ago. An anchor, a ship wheel and a life buoy made from only cotton rope and popsicle sticks. I used the ship wheel as an ornament to my coastal home sign. A sign with the word “Home” with a ship wheel as the “o”.

Picture110

Let’s see what we need to make this DIY Coastal Ship Wheel Home Sign :

  • Wood planks (I used balsa wood and kraft cardboard)
  • White acrylic paint
  • Blue acrylic paint
  • Ship wheel ornament
  • Glue

Picture107

Super easy steps to do it yourself this marine theme home sign:

  1. If you have a ready wooden plank with a proper size, you can jump to step two. I used balsa wood in a small plank size, so I have to glue two of it with Kraft cardboard as the back structure.
  2. Paint the wooden plank with dark blue and let it dry.
  3. Arrange the home wording along with the ship wheel ornament into a good composition. Paint the “h”, “m” and “e” with white paint.
  4. Glue the ship wheel as an “o” to the sign. Let it dry. Finished!

Picture108

It’s a great simple diy home sign for beach home on this summer. It will tie in with your nautical theme home. Very pop up blue that screams for coastal look and yet very humble sign. Hope it inspires you to make your own Nautical Ship Wheel Home Sign.
