DIY Fall Upcycled Jar Gold Vase

Fall decoration I like is usually in white and gold colors. Therefor I make most of my Fall DIYs in gold and white theme. Like this project I just made; it’s a DIY Fall Upcycled Jar Gold Vase. A gold vase made from used mason jar or just regular glass jar. Or you can say a painted mason jar vase. This gold vase with stripes accent is super easy to make, but look at the result, it’s totally brings up the plain glass jar into a different look!

I played a little bit with the colors and pattern on this Fall gold vase. I mixed gold with black and white touch of colors and presented it in stripes pattern look. I also tried to be more creative with sizes of the stripes, so it would not be looking bored. Well, let’s just find out more on supplies that I have to prepare for this Fall DIY and how the simple steps were.

Things To Prepare

This is super inexpensive Fall DIY to make, upcycling used mason jar and some paint and you are ready to start this Fall project. Here are the short list of supplies you will be needed to make a DIY Fall Upcycled Jar Gold Vase :

  • Glass Jar / Mason Jar
  • White acrylic paint
  • Gold acrylic paint
  • Black acrylic paint
  • Black marker

How To Make

I mixed the process of painting between spray painting and hand painting. If you have steady hands, you can follow my way, but if you hesitate, use a paper tape to mark the line for painting the stripes. Anyway, these are the easy steps to make DIY Fall Upcycled Jar Gold Vase in stripes :

  1. Make sure the glass / mason jar is clean and free from oil or debris. Then spray paint the jar with gold paint. leave it to dry.
  2. Paint the bottom side with black acrylic paint. You can use paper tape to mark the border line so you will get a straight result. Let it dry before you continue with the white paint.
  3. Paint the next stripe with white acrylic paint. Use a paper tape to watch out for the border lines, above and below. Or you can paint it with steady hand without using any border tape.
  4. The finished stripe is a thin black stripe which I used a black marker to do it. It’s a lot easier for me that way. But you can use paper tape as the stencil and hand painted it with black. That’s it!

Tips : Make sure when you paint by using spray paint; you spray the object in swiping movement, not spray in one spot. By doing the swiping move, the spray paint will evenly cover the object nicely. And keep changing the different sides of the object for more spray until all surface is covered evenly by the paint. But if you spray in spots, usually the sprayed paint will drip and thick looking in spots which will look bad in result.

A Fall gold vase which is so easy and quick to make. This stripes gold vase is great for last minute fall decoration or a centerpiece for a fall wedding which you would be easy to make in large amount because it’s so simple to make. Add some white flowers and the fall gold vase would look amazing for your fall home decor. Let’s give it a try!

DIY Fall Gold Acorn

Fall is coming soon, many of you are preparing new decorations to spice things up at home. And for those who love to personalized your own decorations, I may have an idea for your Fall DIYs plan. I made an acorn in gold and reconstructive look. I just love the color gold for fall. It’s an easy DIY fall and simple material to used, even recycled material as one of the main supply for this DIY acorn.

My DIY Fall Gold Acorn is one of a different way to present an acorn. It’s a faux acorn that I made from plastic egg and pistachio’s shells. Quick and easy to make, also inexpensive, that is what I love for a seasonal diy decorations. And for this fall gold acorn, you can use it from year to year because acorn is one of the symbol of the fall and you can easily mix it with other ornaments of decorations. The gold acorn can be used as a main star or as a complimentary ornament; it’s up to you to arrange it.

Things To Prepare

I still have some plastic eggs from last Easter and some pistachio’s shells from my Pistachio’s Shells Sunflower project. So, I didn’t need to buy new supplies for this Fall project. I guess, some of you may have the same supplies as mine, and that would be easier for you to follow my tutorial right away. These are the complete list of supplies you will be needed to make a fall gold acorn:

  • Plastic egg
  • Pistachio’s shells
  • Gold paint
  • Wooden stick
  • Hot glue

How To Make

The great thing about this pistachio’s shells acorn is that it’s so easy to make and inexpensive for you to make in large amount. So, gather all your supplies I have mentioned before and let’s start to make a gold acorn from pistachio’s shells. And these are the easy steps to make DIY Fall Gold Acorn :

  1. Start with choosing pistachio’s shells and separate them in sizes. Take the bigger size group of pistachio’s shells and glue it one by one onto the plastic egg by using hot glue. Position the shells around the middle of the egg and the bigger part of the egg that will be fully covered by pistachio’s shells.
  2. Continue to glue pistachio’s shells one by one, row by row all the way up to the top of the egg. And while the glue is still hot and melt, insert a small wooden stick in the middle top. It would look like a stalk. Let it dry before you move on to painting work.
  3. Use a gold spray paint and spray it evenly to the pistachio’s shells acorn. Wait until it’s dried. Finished!

Yes, this gold acorn is as easy as that! Quick and simple to make, so you can make lots of them and have it to decorate your home for this fall. You can put them on your mantel, your dining table for fall tablescape, living room table, kitchen top or use it to make a fall wreath. Anything, anywhere in other colors too! You can paint the pistachio’s shells acorn in white, blue or other colors you favor. Wait no more and give it a try!

Upcycled Penguin Socks Doll – No Sewing

I almost throw away my kid’s old socks until I realized I can make dolls out of it. It’s difficult to find an idea out of unattractive white and black socks. At first, I wanted to make a batman doll, but I couldn’t find a way without sewing and cutting it, which I find it so handfull. Luckly, I thought of penguin! Yes, a penguin is just perfect for my white and black socks. I don’t need to cut, attach the pieces, and sewing all together; in the other hand, I just need to form it and glue it! So, this DIY Upcycled Penguin Socks Doll is No Sewing involved at all! Yay!

This cutie penguin socks doll is so easy to make because you don’t need to sew it at all. You would only need some glue to work it out. And white black socks are not like cute patterned socks that are easily turned into pretty socks doll, but you can make it into a sweet little penguin socks doll for your kids. So, instead of throwing all your plain white and black socks, you can turn it into an adorable new toy for your kids! Yes, a no – sew upcycled penguin doll socks! Let’s find out more on how I make a penguin socks doll without sewing.

Things To Prepare

First of all is to prepare all supplies needed for making my penguin socks doll . It’s just a list of common craft supplies, so it won’t give you hard time to gather all the materials. Here are the list of supplies you will be needed to make penguin doll from upcycled socks without sewing:

  • Three white and black socks (1 1/2 pairs) I used old socks
  • Two googling eyes
  • Black, white and yellow craft foam
  • Red ribbon
  • UHU glue

How To Make

My penguin socks doll is super easy and quick to make. And you don’t need to fill it with dacron or any stuffing, you just use all your old socks. Without any further, here are the easy steps to make DIY Upcycled Penguin Socks Doll :

  1. Take your clean old socks, you need 3 socks or more. I used one as the skin, and two other socks as stuffing, but you can add more socks to make a chubbier penguin.
  2. After you stuff two socks in two parts, as a head and as a body; you fold in the excess socks (the skin part) and leave a black part more. The black part will serve as the penguin’s feet.
  3. Glue the excess black part to secure the whole stuffed penguin and at the same time, fold a bit in the center to show two little black penguin’s feet.
  4. While it’s drying, you cut white craft foam in a shape of a circle in a pair, for penguin’s eyes. Glue it in the middle line of the black and white border, on penguin’s head. Add a pair of googling eyes on top.
  5. Take a yellow craft foam and cut two little triangle and glue it together to make the beak. Then, glue it between the eyes.
  6. Get more craft foam, this time in black and white. Cut them to make a pair of penguin’s wings. glue each black and white together and use the black side as the top. Glue each wing into the left and right of the penguin’s body.
  7. The last step is to add more cuteness to this little penguin doll by adding a red scarf from a red ribbon.Tie them above the hands. The scarf is also used to shape and separate the head part and the body part of the penguin’s socks doll. Finished!

I bet the little ones would love it, it’s squishy and cute. For mommies, it’s a quick and super easy DIY socks doll to make. Anyone can make this penguin socks doll, because you don’t need to sew anything! Just one tool to make my socks doll, which is glue. So, this no sew socks doll would be great for kid’s craft too. Anyway, it’s not bad at all to save some money from buying a new toy for your kids. Okay, now please don’t toss away any of your old white and black socks, it doesn’t look appealing as a socks doll like maybe your husband’s socks; whoever, but it will look super cute once you turn it into a penguin socks doll. Use those old socks to make one or more penguin socks doll and explore more of your creativity to make different looks on the penguins. Have fun trying!

DIY Upcycling Gold Floating Pots

It’s September! Fall 2020 is coming and it’s a transition time from summer to fall. Fall decor becomes your top search to get some inspiration for the season. And I have my easy DIY Upcycling Gold Floating Pots as one of an idea for a frugal fall decoration among of many of my Fall decoration collections you can check out. It’s an easy fall DIY with an unique look and also an upcycling tin can project. Let’s learn more about the process of how to make this twin golden pots from tin cans.

It’s a super easy and quick DIY for Fall decor. And it’s super cheap too, considered it’s an upcycled DIY fall project. I chose gold as the main look to represent the glimmering gold of fall color. And some aloe vera as the decorative plant which also a great indoor plant with all its benefits. And for the finishes, I used some small white gravel to give the sleek look. Anyway, let’s find out the main material for my Fall Upcycling Gold Floating Pots and the making steps.

Things To Prepare

I like working with tin cans, because there are tons of ideas to upcycled it into something useful and yet pretty. So, the tin can is the main star for this fall DIY. Here are the list of supplies you will be needed to make my DIY Upcycled Gold Floating Pots:

  • Used tin can
  • Gold acrylic spray paint
  • Pipe holder
  • Glass silicone glue or you can use metal glue

How To Make

It only took me three simple steps to make this DIY Upcycled Gold Floating Pots. After you have done with it, you can decorate it with some fake plants or candle or some scented pine cones or whatever that express autumn. So, here are the easy steps to make my DIY Fall gold pots :

  1. Clean the tin can and make sure there is no grease on the surface is left. Paint the tin can with gold spray paint. Leave it dry.
  2. Paint the pipe holder with gold paint too and leave it dry.
  3. Apply some glue to each golden tin can and put it all together with the golden pipe holder, just like in the picture. Let the glue harden and firm. Finished!

DIY Nautical Canister

Nautical theme always interests me, especially the deep blue color against white, it’s just beauty. And all the symbols, like an anchor, a buoy, a steering wheel, ship, lighthouse and many more are fantastic to be a focal point to something with nautical theme decor. This time I made a DIY nautical canister; a white and navy blue with nautical symbols of an anchor and a steering wheel. It’s an upcyling canister that I made into this nice looking nautical canister. Later you will learn how easy it is to make your own DIY Nautical Canister.

Things To Prepare

I guess everyone would have some old or used canister, but for this nautical project, I choose a box shape not cylinder canister. Here are the list of supplies you will be needed to make my DIY nautical canister:

  • Used canister
  • Dark blue acrylic paint
  • White acrylic paint
  • Jute rope
  • Black marker
  • Hot glue

How To Make

It does have a little drawing involved in making this coastal diy, but you can use sticker, or stencil. Anyway, besides the drawing part, the rest of the steps are easy and quick to do, let’s find out here on below tutorial and picture shown above :

  1. Clean the canister and make sure no grease on the surface is left. Paint the canister with white paint. Leave it dry.
  2. Paint the canister lid with dark blue paint after the white paint. leave it dry.
  3. Take a jute rope and make a frame on the two sides of the canister. Glue the jute rope onto the canister with hot glue.
  4. Draw an anchor and a steering wheel on each framed side on the canister by using a black marker. Finished!

The canister suddenly has a new look, a nautical look! Isn’t it easy and quick to make? Please, try to make one yourself, and be surprised by the result. This diy nautical canister would look great sitting on your mantel, side table or kitchen to go along with the rest of your coastal decorations. Have fun!

LEGO Birthday Theme

I always prepare a birthday with a theme requested by my kid. Yes, every year! And now, I want to share one of my kid’s birthday theme which was Lego. For me, it’s a little bit hard to find Lego theme birthday decorations in budget. in that case, I have to think frugal and DIY most of the elements on the birthday. These are some of my tricks to have a Lego birthday theme in budget but still full of fun. And most of all, a birthday that I don’t have to get super busy doing everything in one day, but all things I can prepare in days before the big day.

Decorations To Prepare

Before you start to put all the decorations together, you need to prepare a table and a table cover. I like to use rectangle shape table with the wider side facing front to showcase more of your birthday stuff. I also prefer white table cover, so that it can match any theme color I want from year to year. These are at least things that you have to prepare to decorate your kid’s Lego birthday theme.

  • Cool Lego Banner

A printed banner is the fastest choice to decorate birthday background in a cool way. Find or design your own banner according to your theme, and you can add your kid’s name, date, wishes and of course the theme logo. I chose simple classic Lego head as the main theme. Having a banner also means you don’t have to waste much time to decorate the background.

  • Printed Lego Bunting

After a banner, a bunting is a must to decorate your table from front view. More festive!

  • DIY Lego Baloons

It’s a cheap way to get a Lego theme balloons. Just use regular yellow balloons and draw a Lego head by using a black marker. Draw it after you blow the balloon. And use it to decorate the left and right of the banner. And the best part is; you can share it to each kid to bring home a Lego balloon. That means more things to bring home beside a goody bag. That is twice fun! You don’t waste your decorations or meaning; you use your souvenir as decorations.

  • Initial from Brick Blocks

Bring out a decoration as one of the attraction on the dessert table (eventhough I don’t put lots of desserts, ooops!). I made an initial from brick blocks in yellow as a decor piece.

  • Lego Storage Head

I wanted a Lego head cake but I don’t want to pay much. For that, my idea was to use a real Lego Head, which is a Lego storage head. I use it because my kid can use it (plus as one of the birthday gift) after the party. Instead of paying much for a fake Lego head (some are cakes , some even only a non-edible foam) from a birthday cake, I rather use this Lego head jar. Put the Lego head on top of a plain cake which decorated with chocolate brick blocks in colors.

  • Lego Theme Birthday Labels

Themed label is a must, why? You need it to label many things to be easier; goodie bag, the souvenirs, drinks, cups, the list go on. And it keep everything in one theme.

Goody Bags

Goody bags are the number one attraction besides the cake. Kids would wait for the last pleasure of a birthday party; including the birthday boy / girl would want a goody bag. So, always remember to make a spare for the birthday boy/girl. I love to give many things inside a goody bag and not just sweets and snacks.

  • Printed custom mug

Find one thing that you want to collect to represent each of your kid’s birthday. I choose a mug, so I always print a different theme birthday mug as one of the souvenir. Kids find it cute, the parents love a useful souvenir, am I right?

  • Snack box

The hardest thing is choosing the goodies that represent the theme. But I got way to solve that. A snack box is one of my trick to put all the snacks, sweets, everything that doesn’t have to be related to theme. Just put it all in one box and label it with Lego theme sticker to match the rest of the theme.

  • Wrapped juice drink

It would look matchy to the theme if you wrap the juice box with yellow origami paper and draw some dots to make the juice box looks like a brick block.

  • Brick blocks package

Most kids love to play brick blocks. Pack some brick blocks in a transparent plastic and label it with the Lego theme sticker. A toy souvenir is of course a heaven sent to kids. You can buy the blocks in large pack to make the souvenir to save more money.

  • A yellow transparent (one-sided) bag

I chose a front-transparent yellow bag to hold and display all the souvenirs for the goodie bag. Kids would go banana for it.

Last thing was my birthday gift for the birthday boy, I gave him a box of classic Lego! Yay! As you can see, I display it too on the table. You might wandering why are the goodie bags are not shown on most picture, that’s because I celebrated the birthday on two different places. Enough say, I guess I have delivered my ideas and tricks, let me know in the comment what’s your tricks to have a festive, easy and low budget themed birthday. It doesn’t have to be kid’s birthday, anyone with themed birthday would be great share.

Do you need a tier stand? But you don’t want to spent more money to buy or spend time choosing the right stand that you want? While you have plenty of time at home to make your own tier with your own choice? Let’s make one then! How? I’ll share with you on how I make my DIY Tier Stand, super easy! As easy as pie and yes you can use it to showcase your gorgeous pie too!

I made this tier stand by using simple things, a plate and a small glass jar. It’s a used jar and a piece of flat round ceramic plate I bought. I made it in all white, I just love a white tier stand, because it would be a great blank canvas to the things you want to display; a beautiful cake, yummy cupcakes, fresh fruits, and many more. I happened to have some lemons, an orange and a lime to put on my white tier stand with a little garnish of some white rose moss.

DIY Pistachio Shells Sunflower

I have been saving some pistachio shells for quite sometimes, at first I want to make some lavenders but the spring has past before I get a chance to make one, and now it’s summer! Yes, sunflowers as the flower of summer is as easy as making lavender from pistachio shells. I promise you, making this DIY Pistachio Shells Sunflower is as simple as it looks.

I try to make a very simple and not too close to realistic sunflowers as I prefer to have a little abstract interpretation of the flower. That is why I did not make any leaves on the sunflowers either. The sunflowers can be slip in on some flower pots or as decoration in pencil holders, or anything.

Picture97

Things To Prepare

I did not make the pistachio shells sunflower with leaves, as I wanted to make it in more abstract than the realistic. That’s why I leave it that way. In that case, you won’t need that many supplies for this summer diy. Here are the things which you need to prepare:

  • Pistachio shells
  • Jute rope
  • Yellow acrylic paint
  • Flower stem wire
  • Hot glue

Picture94

How To Make

It was only took me less than half an hour to make this pistachio sunflowers. And most of time spent was only to wait for the drying process of the hot glue and paint. Just follow these easy steps for DIY pistachio shells sunflower and I’m sure you will do an excellent job making it.

  1. First thing to do is to select the pistachio shells. Pick the flawless ones and separate them into the bigger ones and the smaller ones. Big ones are for the bottom petal and the small ones are for the top petals.
  2. Arrange the bottom petals of six and glue it with hot glue gun around the inner circle. Then add the top bottom petal one by one while the glue is still hot.
  3. Apply more hot glue to the inner sunflower. Take the jute rope and make a little swirl. Attach the swirled jute rope to center of the sunflowers. It would look like a disc flower of the sunflower.
  4. Wait until it’s dry. By the way, use a smooth surface as a base to do this gluing work, maybe on a marble or granite base. After it’s dried, take off the sunflower and attach the back of it with a flower stem wire. Let dry and firm.
  5. Next is to do some painting job to the sunflower petals. Use lemon yellow acrylic paint to get a vibrant looking yellow. Paint the petals evenly and let it dry. Finished!

Picture96

Okay, easy to make as I’ve promised right? Cute sunflowers from pistachio shells is great for your summer decoration. And I think I nee to make a cute pot for these cute sunflowers. Well, we’ll see about that, just wait for my next idea!

Painted Summer Cactus Sign

I painted a summer cactus sign this time. I used the other side of my DIY Spring Sign , which makes it into a double sided sign, one side is for spring, and the other side is for summer sign. So you can hang the sign along two seasons of spring and summer, just need to flip it when the season is changed. Very practical sign isn’t it?

Why cactus is always relate to summer? I guess because it’s a tropical plant which able to survive in heat and less water environment. And cacti have a great ability to store water and protect it from evaporate through the succulent stem which has a smooth surface. A cactus can be build up by 90% water, incredible right? That’s why a cactus is a perfect plant for summer; low maintenance but cute and pretty as decoration. If you don’t have a cactus yet, you can paint it like I did, a painted summer cactus sign; and hang it in your home.

Picture91

Things To Prepare

This is absolutely painting work. I used my previous spring sign and use it as a double-sided sign. And the spring sign itself was an upcycling defected sign I bought from Daiso for half price. I don’t have to have more decoration at my storage by having a double sided sign. Anyway, these are the things that I used to make this painted summer cactus sign:

  • Wooden plank ( I used my previous spring sign)
  • Jute rope (It was there before as a rope hanger when I bought the sign)
  • White, light green, dark green, yellow, red acrylic paint
  • Black permanent marker

Picture88

How To Make

Since I already painted both side of the upcycled wood plank when I made my spring sign, my work was easier. That was why I can started painting on the other side which was already in white painted. I did it in a rough paint though, I like it in a bit rusty look.

  1. I started by painting the cactus pot in pink acrylic which was mixed from white and red paint. I chose the pot as the starter because it’s the middle object of the painting, it would be easier as the perimeter of the proportion. On top side, it would be the cactus and below would be the word “summer”.
  2. Decide where the light would be from, left or right, then you can paint some darker shade to the pot.
  3. Paint the cactus with light green first, followed by yellow mixed with a bit of white paint. Paint the yellow and form some parts.
  4. Enhance the parts by paint a blurry line with darker green. After that add some thorns along the lines with dark green paint. Leave it dry.
  5. Mix the pink paint from previous with white, get lighter pink to paint the flower o  top of the cactus. Give some shade of white and dark pink to have a 3D look.
  6. Write the word ‘SUMMER” by using black marker. Let it dry.

Picture92

I haven’t have a proper facility to perform a video to show the steps of my painting, but that is on my wish list, so who knows? 😊 I hope my tutorial would be handy to guide you to paint a similar cactus of your favorite. By the way, this little cute summer cactus sign would be a great addition to a summer decor. So, what are you waiting for? Get your brush and do little painting fun!

DIY Rustic Tray From Ice Sticks

Tomorrow is July and Summer is here, nautical theme decor is usually one of a favorable style for home decor. To show the coastal style, you can pair your nautical decoration with rustic decoration. By combining the two styles, a beachy touch to your home decor will appear itself. That is what I did with my DIY Rustic Tray which I made from ice sticks.

Not just the ice-sticks rustic tray look good for farmhouse decor, it also looks great for your summer home decor. So you can use the rustic tray along the year with different seasonal decoration sitting on the tray. And the rustic tray is easy to do and cheap supplies to use. Perfect for those who loves frugal DIYs. The rustic look of the ice stick tray is coming from the surface created by the ice sticks and the washed white color style paint on the tray. And a little accent of vintage look tray holder that I get from a pair of rope curtain holders in bronze finish color.

Picture82

Things To Prepare

You would only need a few things to prepare for crafting this rustic tray made from popsicle sticks. Here are the very short list of supplies you need to prepare:

  • Ice sticks
  • Rope curtain holders in pair
  • White, black and dark blue acrylic paint
  • Hot glue
  • Wood glue

Picture81

How To Make

It took me a little time to make this rustic tray as I need to glue the ice sticks one by one. And several times of painting works to get the rustic tone looks right. Anyway, let me explain in details on below steps on how to make DIY Rustic Tray from Ice Sticks :

  1. Glue the lolly sticks one by one by using wood glue until you get the desired length. I made it in 14.5 inches (around 37 cm). Let it sits and make sure it’s firm enough.
  2. Paint the tray with white acrylic paint or you can spray paint it. Let it dry.
  3. Apply a little amount of black and dark blue paint, here and there on the white painted tray. Then, paint them again with white paint. Paint it with white over and over until you got the rustic washed tone. Leave it dry.
  4. Take the pair of rope curtain holder and glue each of them on the left and right of the ice stick tray by using hot glue. Let it dry and your white rustic tray is finished!

Picture85

You can pair it with some coastal theme decoration to get a summer look; like what I did on the picture by adding some nautical jute coasters and some seashells on the tray. It’s an easy DIY because you don’t need some big tools to cut the some wood planks to make a tray; but you will only need some popsicle sticks to make it. It’s more like a craft since you only deal with ice sticks and glue. Sounds simple? Have a try and be creative!
