DIY Pumpkin Planter

Fall decor without a pumpkin doesn’t look like fall; Halloween without a pumpkin doesn’t felt like Halloween either, especially a carved pumpkin! No matter how small your home is, you still can squish in a pumpkin. It doesn’t have to be a huge pumpkin, but it can be a small pumpkin decoration that stands out. Like my DIY pumpkin planter I’ve made from an old mug. It’s a cute happy pumpkin for Halloween and fall decor in a form of a succulent planter.

My pumpkin is not spooky but enough to bring in the Halloween vibes. So, if you can bring some joy to your home through that cute smiling pumpkin, why not? Anyway, it’s a frugal upcycling project that is super easy to make. If you have lot of mugs with that shape, then you can do more of my pumpkin planter with different pumpkin expression, that would be super cute! But, before going further, you may want to peek at my steps on making my cute pumpkin planter for succulent.

Things To Prepare

It is quick and easy to make and of course takes only a few simple materials to make this pumpkin planter for the Halloween. I use a vibrant cadmium red to get a very stand out pumpkin So, even though it’s just a small succulent planter, but the pumpkin looks bold and eye catching. Anyway, let’s find out my short list of supplies to make this DIY Pumpkin Planter :

  • An old mug with a pumpkin looking shape.
  • Dark orange acrylic paint or spray paint ( I use cadmium red acrylic paint)
  • White paint
  • Black Marker

How To Make

I love to make a functional decoration, so this cute pumpkin mug, would not just serve as a Halloween decoration, but a planter for my succulent as well. Super easy and quick to make, so you can make many of it. Just make sure your old mugs have a round shape that would look a bit like a pumpkin. I happened to have only one old mug that looks like a pumpkin, so I can only make one. Well, let’s just find out my steps on how to make DIY Pumpkin Planter:

1 . Drill a hole or two on the bottom part of the mug.

2 .Make sure your mug is clean, because the paint would not cover the surface properly on a dirty or grease mug. I painted my mug with white paint first for base and to cover some dark colors on my mug. Let it dry.

3. Paint the mug with dark orange color and wait until it’s dry to proceed with next step.

4. Draw eyes, nose and mouth of a smiling pumpkin on the painted mug planter. You can have any other expression you like for your pumpkin planter, but I like the happy pumpkin.

5. Get a stick shape succulent that would look like a stem and plant it on your pumpkin planter. Don’t forget to add some white little pebbles on top for a better clean look. And your pumpkin planter is done!

Isn’t it cute? Isn’t it frugal? You get a cute pumpkin for Halloween decor, you get a new home for your succulent to grow and you get to upcycling your old mug into something new, pretty and useful. So, what are you waiting for? Try look for your old mugs and find those that you can turn into a pumpkin planter for Halloween. DIY Fall Gold Seashell Holder

I still stick to my gold theme for fall decorations. This time the gold fall is presented for coastal decor. Some of you may have coastal living which is bounded very close to summer beachy style. However, you may put a little twist that can change the strong coastal feeling on summer to fall ambience; and without eliminating the seaside style of your coastal home. I made a fall decoration of a gold seashell bowl. It’s a multipurpose seashell bowl you can use for holding anything you want; maybe some keys, jewelry, a planter or just simply as it is, an element of fall decor.

It is a simple diy project but the gold seashell bowl does look fantastic to match your coastal fall decor. Since the fall seashell bowl has a simple look, it does apply to the making too, very easy and quick to make. Follow my tutorial and I’m sure you can make one for yourself.

Things To Prepare

You can buy seashells on any craft shop or you may have some stash of seashells like I do. I always collect any seashells whenever I have shellfish menu at home. Just wash it and dry it; and you can keep the seashells for a long time. Anyway, let’s go straight to my list of supplies. Here is the list of supplies to make my DIY Fall Gold Seashells Holder :

  • Seashells
  • Gold spray paint
  • Plastic bowl (you can use any bowl or pot that you like)
  • Hot glue

How To Make

I’ve been wanted to make a seashells holder since forever. I like the pattern from the overlapping seashells. I actually love both natural and painted look of the seashells. But for the sake of my fall theme, I chose gold painted seashells. Anyway, it’s super easy to make, just follow my steps and you’ll make it. To be clearer, let’s just go to the tutorial on how to make my DIY Fall Gold Seashell Holder :

1 .Clean the seashells and try to separate small to bigger seashells in group. You will need this grouping to get a better proportion look.

2 Glue the seashells one by one from the top of the bowl. Use the smallest group of seashells first, then you can continue it to the bigger and bigger seashells. Glue them by using hot glue gun and arrange them in bond pattern. That way, all the bowl surface will be covered by seashells and the look will be fabulous; like a blooming flower.

3 .Spray gold paint to the seashell bowl evenly. leave it to dry. And you’re done!

This gold seashell holder is added to my fall decoration. Use it for any purpose, from multi-purpose holder, planter to a plain decoration bowl. It would also look great if you put it together with other fall decorations to style your mantel, dining table or even your kitchen table. I’ve made my gold seashell holder, so maybe now it’s your turn to try making your own seashell bowl for fall decor!

Upcycled Tiered Plastic Rack Planters

I just got some new succulents and they’re all look super cute. At first, I lined them up along my balcony, but it took a lot of space and I was worried it would get kicked accidentally. So, when I saw my mom’s old two tiered plastic rack, I just grab it as it is already a junk for my mom. I painted it with white, yup, my favorite solution is to paint everything in white. And of course, I turned the plastic rack into a succulent tiered planters, which helps me organize my succulent pots and save more space.

I add a little modern farmhouse sign with the words; “My Garden” which I made about a month ago. It’s super easy and quick to make over the plastic rack into a great looking tiered planters. Just a little washing work and a painting job. Interested? Let’s find out more on how I made a tiered planters for my succulent from an old plastic rack.

Things To Prepare

Short list of materials is the best upcycled project for me. Tools and material that easy to be found is very helpful to make easier and fast to be done. Let’s go straight to the list of supplies. Here is the list of supplies to make my Upcycled Tiered Plastic Rack Planters :

  • Old Tiered Plastic Rack
  • White spray paint
  • A Farmhouse Sign
  • Hot glue

How To Make

This upcycled plastic rack project that I’ve turned into two tiers planters is mostly a painting job. What I did was basically just change the plastic rack’s color and add a simple farmhouse sign. To be clearer, let’s just go to the tutorial on how to make my Upcycled :

1 .Clean the old plastic rack and make sure it’s really clean for good painting result.

2 .Spray white paint to the rack evenly. Let it dry.

3 I took my My Garden sign that I’ve made and glue it by using hot glue to the front plastic tiered planters. And done!

I love how it turned out, an old unattractive plastic rack has become a fancy tiered planters for my succulents. I hope you would do the same thing to your plastic racks that’s ages; because usually old plastic racks tend to loose its color and that would look bad to the appearance. Therefor, most people would just throw it away. But, you could make use of it and turn the plastic rack into something useful and beautiful, like my tiered plastic planters.

How To Make A Modern Farmhouse Sign

You smitten with modern farmhouse style, but it’s difficult for you to make a decoration that reflects a farmhouse style because you’re not really clear of what it means by Modern Farmhouse Style. Here I have a modern farmhouse sign decoration that would explain it. A modern farmhouse it’s actually a mix of a modern style meets farmhouse style. A modern style is clean and sleek. And the easiest base color to show modern is white. In the other hand, farmhouse is more country or traditional, and often looking rustic. How can the two of them meets together? Of course through the simplicity of both style and practicality that modern and farmhouse is looking for.

Modern and farmhouse are both simple and practical, you can mix the farmhouse’s traditional and a little rustic look into a clean and sleek of modern. Like for example my simple clean white and sleek cut of garden sign meets the rustic hand painted framed lines. Humble words of “my garden” is also a mix of a laid-back farmhouse wording of “my” and a clean wording of “GARDEN”. So, basically I use modern canvas and painted it with farmhouse. Although this project is more to work on the styles, I will still share with you the simple technical tutorial on how to make a modern farmhouse sign.

Things To Prepare

Try to use anything you can find at home or things you can upcycle. A similar material will do to make this modern farmhouse “my garden” sign :

  • A white plank
  • Dark blue acrylic paint
  • Black marker

How To Make

By understanding the modern elements that you can mix together with farmhouse :

1 .Have a white plank to work as the Farmhouse sign. It can be any material. wooden, pvc, steel plate, anything. Cut the plank into your desired size, with rectangle shape.

2 .Next is to paint a very dark blue on the white plank by hand. Let it looked a bit rough on finishing, to get the rusty farmhouse charm. Let it dry.

3 .Write the words “My Garden” by using black marker. And you’re done!

Basically, once you understand what is farmhouse and what is modern style and how you combine the two styles to create modern farmhouse look, the rest is easy. Any modern farmhouse would be easy for you to make. If you like some farmhouse look, check out my DIY Farmhouse Upcycled Pot Holder.

The materials are only things around your home, and if you’re a crafter, then I’m sure you will have all the supplies I use. This Patriotic Day project is flexible in supplies, because you can use anything you can find at home that resembles things that I use to make my DIY glasses holder for Father’s Day gift. Anyway, here is the list of supplies to make my DIY Patriotic Flower Vase :

  • A used glass jar (mine is missing its lid, so I can no longer use it as a jar)
  • Red acrylic paint
  • Blue polka-dot ribbon

( If you don’t have the ribbon like mine, you can be creative with what you have. Like maybe you can paint your plain blue ribbon with white dots or put stickers. Or you can paint a white ribbon into blue polka ribbon. And another way is to use a plain blue ribbon and put some star embellish on it. Up to you! )

  • paper pom pom

You can make this pom pom from crepe paper or you can simply use white flowers, either fresh white flowers from your garden or faux white flowers. Just make use of anything you have. I use white paper pom pom because I don’t have white fresh flowers for this moment.

How To Make

My red white blue vase is easy to make, just a little paint job which doesn’t need an extra skill to do it. I’m sure your kids can tag along the making process. Anyway, this is the step by step tutorial on how to make my DIY Patriotic Flower Vase :

1 .Clean and dry the glass jar you want to use for this upcycling patriotic day project. Then paint the glass jar with red acrylic paint. Paint it roughly or smoothly will be your choice. The result will have their own character, weather is rustic rough by using paint brush to paint; or a smooth clean modern look if you use spray paint; all up to your style. I myself, use paint brush to get the farmhouse rustic look. Leave it to dry.

2 .Cut a blue polka ribbon and tie a bow on the neck of the jar.

3 .Put the white paper pom pom on top of the red blue vase and you’re done!.

Super quick and easy to make, my DIY Patriotic Flower Vase may take a longer time to wait for the paint to dry then other steps of making it. That’s why you can bring along your kids or your old folks to join along this patriotic day project. You can make more than one of this red white blue flower vase and use it as centerpieces on your 4th of July dinner table. How lovely it would look on your dining table. Well, have a great time making it!

Like I did last year with Dad’s Coin Jar for Father’s Day gift. I have another idea for this year Father’s Day gift that you can do it yourself and very useful. Yes, a DIY glasses holder for Father’s Day gift.

This DIY Father’s Day gift is actually a glasses holder plus a handphone holder too. Which is great for Daddies. So, if you gift them with a glasses and handphone holder on Father’s Day, they can be more organized with their glasses and phone. How to make? • PVC panel – white color. (you can use white painted wooden panel or any other panel that you have and you can work with)
  • Mustache made from paper card
  • Cabinet holder
  • hot glue

How To Make

My glasses holder plus handphone holder is super easy to make and very useful for daddy whose always put his glasses anywhere. Great for DIY Father’s Day gift. By the way, this is the step by step tutorial on how to make Glasses Holder for Father’s Day Gift :

Upcycled Rattan Basket Tray

An upcycling project to me is a great way to get rid of things from your storage and get a new functional decorative things in return. And this upcycled rattan basket tray is one of it. I upcycled a rattan basket I get from a hamper. I’ve done some make over to the basket into a leather handle rattan tray. It’s simple but it looks sophisticated. I can assure you that it’s super easy to make too. It also goes well with any seasons, winter, spring, summer or even fall.

Pairing the white rattan basket with a brown leather handle brings a great contrast on the color and the texture. White against dark brown and smooth leather against rough rattan. That’s what makes the rattan tray with leather handle looks amazing. Even it’s just a simple matching between the leather and the rattan. Next, I’m going to share with you all the material I used to make the rattan tray and easy steps on how to make my upcycled rattan basket tray.

Things To Prepare

Not many supplies you need for this upcycled tray project. Just a short list of supplies with two important element for you to have which are a basket (rattan or not, will do) and a leather strap/belt. To be more clear, here is the list of supplies to make my upcycled rattan basket tray :

  • A used rattan basket
  • White spray paint
  • Leather handle (I got it from an old leather belt in brown color)
  • metal pins (You can use locking pin backs for a durable use)
  • hot glue

How To Make

This rattan basket tray with leather handle is super easy and quick to make. But as you can see it does really elevate the old rattan basket into a sophisticated tray that you can proudly use to decorate your living room coffee table. Or other table in your home. Anyway, this is the step by step tutorial on how to make upcycled rattan basket tray with leather handle :

1 .I removed the basket handle and keep it for other project, don’t waste it. And clean the rattan basket.

2 .Paint the rattan basket with white spray paint and let it sit for a while until it’s dry.

3 .Cut the old belt to get one pair of leather handle. I glue it to the rattan basket with hot glue and once it is dry, I secured it with metal pins on each sides of the leather handle. You can also use locking pin backs for a better durable result. Since I don’t have locking pin backs, I use the hot glue and metal pin like I have explain above. And if you use locking pin backs, you must have a longer leather handle so you can insert in the leather handle into the basket then pin the leather handle together.in each both end.

4 .Your upcycled rattan basket tray is ready. Now you can use it to organize your things on table or and decorate it with pretty things ytou have. I decorate rattan tray with my nautical canister (for a summer coastal touch), my bud vase and some of my books.

I love making trays, it’s a great tool to organize things that usually scatter on table. And you can make it as a decorative element on your table, from dinning table, working desk to coffee tables. I made some trays like rustic tray from ice sticks, upcycled pedestal tray to upcycled gold tray. And those, mostly are upcycled project from things that we usually throw to garbage bin. So, do you have any basket sitting in your storage room? Make use of it and please, upcycle it into this amazing rattan basket tray with leather handle! And don’t forget, an old leather belt or leather bag’s handle is the significant accent to this tray project.

DIY Faux Cactus

Summer is coming, sunny days and fun activities await you. However, decorating home with seasonal theme is even more fun to me. Summer decor has many elements to play with, from summer colors; nautical theme of beach; refreshing fruits like lemons, watermelons, and more; summer flowers like sunflowers and many others; all the way to cute mini cactus or succulents. This time I made DIY Faux Cactus from styrofoam ball. It is super easy and quick to make, but it looks super cute for summer decoration.

Things To Prepare

This is a very easy and quick Summer DIY to make. And cacti are super cute, plus you don’t have to take care of this one. Anyway, here is the short list of items that I used to make my DIY Faux Cactus from styrofoam ball:

  • A styrofoam ball
  • Dark green spray paint
  • Light green acrylic paint
  • Yellow acrylic paint
  • Pink flannel
  • Red ribbon flower ornament
  • UHU glue

How To Make

My DIY Faux Cactus will only spent less than half an hour to make. In that case, you can duplicate them in many and different shapes. It would be cute to have them in a row of potted cacti too. Okay, here is the simple steps on how to make faux cactus with a cute little pink flower on top :

1 .Paint the styrofoam ball with dark green spray paint. Leave it dry.

2 .Paint some dots in a regular line from top to bottom ball. Do the same by making more lines evenly. For this, you use light green acrylic paint and use a thin brush to add the dots. Let it dry.

3 .Now, add yellow dots of acrylic paint on top of each light green dots. Let it dry before continue.

4 .Take some pink flannel and cut a mini flower shape out of it and glue it on top of the cactus ball.

5 .Get a red flower ribbon and stick it on top of the pink flannel flower. And your DIY Faux Cactus is done! Use a cute mini mug as a pot to hold the the faux cactus.

Anyone can do this DIY faux cactus, as it is super easy and quick to make. Some greens in your home would look great for summer theme decor. So, now you know how to make a mini cactus in a very simple way. Happy trying!
